David Parr - FOOLER!

David Parr had one of the most memorable Fool Us moments in all of Penn & Teller: Fool Us history! A baffling trick you will see in person at Poe's Magic this August 3rd, 2019!

David Parr is an internationally acclaimed magician who has devoted his life to sharing the experience of mystery with audiences around the world. Magic fans will recognize David from his appearance on the hit TV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us. There, David’s magic was put to the ultimate test in front of the cameras, a live audience, millions of TV viewers, and two very savvy Las Vegas magicians. (Spoiler Alert…) David fooled their faces off and not only took home the coveted Fool Us trophy, but also won a guest spot in their live show at the Rio hotel in Las Vegas!

Will you say that I am mad?

When you imagine Edgar Allan Poe’s classic, “The Tell-Tale Heart”, whose voice do you hear? Is the killer a woman? Explore a feminine twist on Poe’s classic horror tale at “Will You Say That I Am Mad?”, a special evening of mayhem, mystery, movies and magic in Poe’s Magic Theater at the historic Lord Baltimore Hotel.

Poe’s Magic Theatre’s Vince Wilson and Dave Thomen: Our host, Poe's Magic Theater Magician Vince Wilson sets the stage (and the mood!) with Edgar Allan Poe themed magic. Joining him is Mr. Dave Thomen (Voted WJZ-CBS news “Baltimore’s best” magician) for a very special performance of Magic & Mystery!

The Raven and film Q&A with Poe Movies: The Director/Producer team, Thad & Season Ciechanowski, will screen their acclaimed adaptation of Poe’s “The Raven”, followed by discussion and Q&A. Producers will also share details about Poe Movies’ planned production of “The Tell Tale Heart” and discuss the decision to cast a female killer.

The Tell-Tale Heart Live Radio Play, The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre: A live performance by Jennifer Restak, Alex Zavistovich and Brian MacDonald from The National Edgar Allan Poe Theatre. The company members will read a radio play adaptation of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” by Edgar Allan Poe and noted British scholar, Richard Hand (University of East Anglia), in which the murderer is a woman.

"I smiled, for what had I to fear?": The evening concludes with a vote! Attendees get the final word on whether the notion of a female killer is utter genius or purely mad.

Presented by Poe Baltimore,“Will You Say That I Am Mad?” is an intimate preview of what guests can expect at the International Edgar Allan Poe Festival & Awards later this fall. Proceeds benefit programming at Baltimore’s Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum. Representatives from Poe House will also be on hand to answer questions, help guests plan their visit to the festival, and provide information about all the “Death Weekend” events!

From the Hotel to the Grave

What an extraordinary night this past Friday! On a SOLD OUT tour, we learned about the spirits of The Lord Baltimore Hotel and the some of the ghosts of Baltimore! Then we went to The Westminster Burying Grounds to investigate the unusual history and legends that haunt near Poe's Grave!

Finally, a seance with pendulums! Oh, they moved by the way....

The next tours are this Friday and Saturday and will include timeline regression hypnosis! Maybe YOU will see Poe in person!

Pluto's Poe Trivia

In 1849, Poe (pictured above in 1848) went missing for five days and was found "worse for the wear" and delirious in Baltimore. He was taken to the hospital where he died soon after at the age of 40. No autopsy was performed, the cause of death was listed as a vague "congestion of the brain” and he was buried two days later. Experts and scholars have proposed everything from murder and rabies to dipsomania and carbon monoxide poisoning as the reason for his demise, but to this day the cause of Edgar Allan Poe’s death remains a mystery. Could there be a more befitting legacy?
