The Baltimore Experience presents
Mysterious Baltimorelegends and lore
Fifty stops of legend, lore and true history, from Poe's grave to Fort McHenry

Baltimore seen from Federal Hill in 1847.
Every city has stories it tells visitors, and stories it keeps for itself. This walk is the second kind. It starts wherever you are standing, and it takes you to fifty places across Baltimore where history got strange: the grave Poe was moved out of, the hospital where he called for a man nobody can identify, the lighthouse that walked into town, the hill that is partly hollow, the train Frederick Douglass jumped to freedom, and a restaurant that owned an eight-hundred-pound ball of string.
It runs from Poe's West Side through downtown and Mount Vernon, east through Jonestown, Little Italy, Fells Point, Canton and Highlandtown, and south across the harbor to Federal Hill, Locust Point and Fort McHenry. Legends are labeled as legends. The true parts are usually stranger.
What you getFifty stops in eleven neighborhoods, each with about two minutes of narration by Dominic and every word written out to read along. Turn on location and the walk offers the three stops nearest you, then a brass arrow guides you there along real Baltimore streets. No location? Pick a neighborhood and start anywhere. Each stop you reach adds a calling card to your collection, and finishing a neighborhood completes its set.
Ride when you likeThe whole city is a lot of walking, so the walk tells you when the Water Taxi, the free Harbor Connector ferries, the free Charm City Circulator, Light Rail or the Metro will save your feet, with links to times and fares.
Yours for lifeNo account and no password. After you buy, a code arrives by email. Open it on any phone, as often as you like, for as long as you like. Your progress stays on that phone, so take a neighborhood a day.
Museums are separateEvery stop is told from a public sidewalk, park or square, and none needs a ticket. A few stops are also museums you can visit on your own. The Edgar Allan Poe House sells timed tickets online, released no more than 30 days ahead;
book on the Poe House website if you'd like to go in. At Fort McHenry the grounds and Sea Wall Trail are free and the star fort charges a fee.

This is a self-guided walk, not an in-person guided tour, and it includes no admissions and no transit fares. Burying grounds and parks keep daytime hours, and transit schedules change, so check the operators' links before you ride. Keep to the sidewalks and cross at the lights. Your location is read only by your own phone. One purchase is one person's walk; please don't share your code publicly.
