The artwork
Red block lettering occupies nearly half the sheet, leaving Malini’s small full-length photograph to stand in a field of warm cream. His top hat, cape, and formal clothes identify the conjurer with almost no scenery.
This is closer to local event advertising than elaborate chromolithography. The sheet announces a Hotel Leamington appearance in Oakland on Monday evening, November twenty-first, 1932. The enormous name does the heavy lifting from across the lobby.
